It didn't start with Palin

We continually hear that the current lack of intelligent dialogue and compromise began with the elevation of Sarah Palin to the position of Vice Presidential nominee.  While there is undoubtedly some truth to that idea, it isn't the real beginning of the problem, and it becomes more and more clear that the current leaders in the race to the bottom of the GOP are just the latest incarnation of that reality.
